MEGGEN
Life Style Museum in Castle Meggenhorn
The Meggenhorn Castle and its surrounding park are located on the shores of Lake Lucerne.
In 1240 for the first time mentioned under the name of "Mekkenhorn", the estate was until the 16th century partly owned by the canons of the collegiate church of St Leger in Lucerne. On instructions of owner Edouard Hofer, an imposing castle in the style of Chambord castle on the Loire was built from 1868 to 1870.
Guided tours through the museum and the castle give an interesting look into history and the nobility’s life style in the second half of the 19th century up until 1974, when the last owners sold the Meggenhorn castle to the commune of Meggen.
